Grand National Rodeo at the Cow Palace FAQ

Q. The rodeo animals are bred for this. Why are you trying to stop this?
Indeed there are many rodeo animals that are bred to perform. But this does not mean that the rodeo animals at the Cow Palace should be exposed to
the unnecessary dangers of being tackled, roped, spurred, shocked or colliding with other animals or humans. See our links to rodeo animal injuries and accidents on the homepage or just Google 'Cow Palace rodeo injuries'.
Remember, the animals are forced to perform. They cannot say no nor easily escape or avoid any dangers that they can or cannot see.
Furthermore with the rapid rise in extreme sports, people are expecting to see lots of action which means the rodeo horses, bulls and steers are going to be forced to perform -- again against their will.

Q. The rodeo animals are closely monitored and regular vet checks. They are healthier than wild animals. What is your problem?
The rodeo animals are indeed required to be checked or examined before they go into the stadium and/or after they return from the event. But that does not mean injuries can be prevented WHILE the rodeo animals are in the event.
No amount of regular vet checks can reduce the injuries that the rodeo animals are exposed too in the midst of the event.
This is simply an issue of forcing animals into peforming for humans for entertainment purposes only.
Learn about the Cow Palace rodeo issues or just Google '2012 rodeo injuries'.
Remember the rodeo animals are forced to performs. They cannot easily escape or avoid any dangers that they can or cannot see.
Watch this actual video of an event on Oct 19,2012 at the cow palace rodeo and ask yourself: "Where is the onsite vet tech" and "How can a vet stop an event in mid-progress to prevent this"...or is one of the responisbilities of the vet tech to treat an animal AFTER it is already injured.

Q. All rodeo horses and rodeo steers require stimulation. What's wrong with allowing the rodeo animals to perform?
Rodeo horses and steers do not need be involved in risky situations to get stimulation. Furthermore, it is not necessary for the rodeo animals. Rodeo horses in general can be exercised, groomed and ran to provide stimulation
without forcing them to be bucking, or chasing steers to rope. Furthermore, traumatizing young calves or bulls by chasing them and roping them would hardly be considerd stimulation. Throwing rodeo calves to the ground would hardly be considered stimulation or good animal care.
-
Q. The rodeos have been at the Cow Palace forever and its a form of Western Cowboy Culture. Why do you want to change that?
In our opinion, history is just that. We do not need to continue putting horses, calves, and other rodeo animals at risk.
Rodeo animals are working in traumatic conditions and dangerous conditions. It is time for the Cow Palace to take a stand and say its an event from the past and that it does not want any more animal cruelty in Daly City.
As long as there have been rodeos, there have been accidents and deaths to rodeo animals.
We feel this is unnecessary.
-
Q. What about the cowboys and the rodeo staff. Won't they be put out of work?
What cowboys and rodeo staff do outside of rodeos is not our concern.
Our primary concern is for the safety of the rodeo horses, rodeo steers, and rodeo calves specifically at the Cow Palace and other rodeos in California.
-
Q. So whats the big deal? The rodeo cowboy and the rodeo operators are not breaking any laws.
This is debateable. It is just very hard to get the animal cruelty laws enforced especially once a rodeo is over or it leaves town. Furthermore, the Rodeo Associations own rules and regulations are not necessarily being closely monitored or enforced and in a sense this form of self-regulation allows animals to be abused for the whole purpose of entertainment.
We have monitored and witnessed rodeo operators that operate outside of the rules and regulations of the rodeo association.
Furthermore, laws aside, we consider rodeos as unethical. Laws often do not take into affect the ethics of the conditions that the animals work under. The rodeo animals at the Cow Palace will be forced to perform. They can not say no. They can not take a break. And, if they are injured they can not communicate to any vet that they are injured.

Q. You are bunch of whackos just trying to force your issues on us and raising this issue to get donations.
Incorrect. We do not want any money. You will not see any donation button or requests on these pages. We are a bunch of individuals who
care for the well-being for rodeo animals especially the ones at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA.and we feel the need to educate people and politely request that people do not attend any rodeo at the Cow Palace and any rodeos or any event where animals are put unnecessarily in danger.
We are guessing that you do not want to put animals in danger and that is why you are taking your time to read these faqs. We thank you and the rodeo animals will thank you.
-
Q. Why are you trying to get people to stay away from Cow Palace?
We are most definitely not trying to do this! We want you to visit the Cow Palace and enjoy all of the cultural and non-animal entertainment events that it provides.
We are hoping that this website convinces you that attending the rodeo is unnecessary and dangerous to the rodeo animals to the point that you do not attend any rodeo.
The rodeo animals will thank you for it!
-
Q. Why should we believe you at all?
First, go view the rodeo animal injury videos on the homepage. See our links to rodeo horse and rodeo steer injuries on the homepage
Watch them and ask yourself if this is ok.
Second, think on this
We don't make these accidents up. Theses incidents and accidents are videotaped from news sources, organizations, and individuals around the US.
See actual Cow Palace rodeo video of an event on Oct 19,2012 at the cow palace rodeo. Ask yourself "Is this ok?"
Finally, ask yourself "Is this necessary for the city of Daly City or the Cow Palace?". If your answer is yes, then we will not be able to convince you of this. If you feel that rodeo animals cruelty is necessary in the Cow Palace, we hope you reconsider and remember this:
the animals have no choice. They will be performing and if they will be forced into creating an performance -- a performance which puts them at great danger.
If you feel the rodeo is necessary from a purely budgetary financial issue for the city via attracting people, then we believe you need to ask yourself why. Any animal form of entertainment at the Cow Palace can be
replaced with other events that do not require animal use or abuse.
If you agree that the Cow Palace rodeos are unnecessary then please do not attend the rodeo and please discourage others when the topic arises. All of the rodeo animals will thank you.
The Cow Palace offers many
animal-free forms of entertainment. If you are considering attending a rodeo please consider an alternative form of entertainment.
